St. Thomas Lay Leaders Day

A good day for all who attended the event.  I have read the feedback on the evaluation forms.  Thank you for taking the time to fill them out.  Those that wished handouts of the leadership material please note that we are unable to photocopy the material in the book for you because of copyright considerations.  The 3 Colors of Leadership book is available on the the 3 Color World website.  www.3colorworld.org

Be glad to have you share your reflections on the day with others by posting comments on this blog.

  1. I guess I am first! I really liked the ideas that were brought forward. I especially liked the "Messy Day" idea that brought the community in. Necessity is the mother of invention! I do believe that as an Anglican "lifer" the writing is on the wall. Go out to the people and show LOVE and MAYBE there will be a few more bodies in the pews. But, for how long? I think we have lost what Jesus taught His followers - we have been too consumed with fishing for funds instead of fishing for men! Egos, politics, beauty and comfort have hampered us on the journey that I believe Christ has chosen us for. We forget that He preached in sandals in the countryside, villages, shores and mountainsides. Jesus gave us the example and somewhere along the way "Christians" decided that humungous, ornate cathedrals and churches filled with pews owned by the rich would be the way to reach the masses. Maybe we can get it right before He comes back to see our failure! "Love one another as I have loved you" is simple and straightforward but we have totally missed it for over 2000 years!! Sure, lots of us "feel good" after church but, unfortunately, if we really searched our hearts, Jesus (I am guilty too often) gets left behind when the church doors close. How often I have heard visitors say how beautiful our church is. I can't remember anyone ever saying "your congregation welcomed me when I was lost and lonely, fed me when I was hungry, clothed me when I was cold and gave me a place to sleep when I had none". Yes, we have given to food banks, causes and individuals from time to time but, Jesus wants us to live it every day. It is hard to do and at my age I am ashamed that I needed a Lay Leadership workshop to open my eyes to what Jesus is calling me to do. Wow! I just realized what I got out of it!! Thank you!
